'Creature' A Colony of Worms, Officials Say

         Ed Buchan, environmental coordinator at the Raleigh Public Utilities Department, told the news outlet that staff biologists had confirmed that the oddity was a colony of worms. The colonies attach themselves to roots that slowly work their way into weak points in the pipes.
          Their movement, he suggested, was a response to the heat from the camera's light. "They seem to respond to the light from the camera," Buchan said. "That light is pretty hot."He said the worms live in sewage and pond sediment, but he hadn't seen them in the sewer before."We were surprised. We didn't know immediately what it was," he said.But he added that the worm colonies, bizarre though they may appear, don't pose problems for the city's water quality. "You want to try to keep the pipe as clear as possible regardless of what's in there," Buchan said.
         "On the other hand, it doesn't seem to be causing any blockage."But a biology professor with the North Carolina State University told News14 it might not be a colony of worms but something else."I think it's a colony of bryozoans," Kwak said. "They are small animals like a hydra that live together in colonies, and they stick out tentacles to feed. And when they're disturbed, they withdraw into small tubes that they've built."

      We all know that technology advances fast, but do you realize how fast? If you look at what we are able to do today compared to just two or three years ago, well, it’s nuts. Think about it, the first generation of the iPhone was released five years ago this month. Doesn’t it seem like we’ve had iPhones longer than that? How did we ever live without smartphones in the first place?
     Scientists are also working on some mind boggling things that will soon be real, like augmented reality contact lenses. Microsoft has even developed the world’s first Universal Translator (or as close to it as we’ll get right now since we don’t communicate with people of other species yet). It’s an exciting time, and it’s easy to fall behind the latest developments. I suppose that is one reason why I can’t break away from my laptop for very long.

What is causing the waves in California to glow?

The phenomenon has been observed on a semi-regular basis since at least 1901 along the beaches around San Diego, Calif. By day the algal blooms give the water a soupy red coloration, which is why they're often referred to as a red tide. But unlike some forms of red tide that can be toxic to people and marine life, the glowing blooms occurring in San Diego waters are reportedly harmless.

For surfers who don't mind catching a wave in water teeming with a sludge of microorganisms, the glowing ocean offers the chance of a lifetime. Night swimmers also often delight in the opportunity to lounge in a bioluminescent sea. The organisms can also be present in wet beach sand, so even beach walkers can watch as the ground sparkles with every footstep.

Several videos posted on YouTube show the majestic effects of the phenomenon. Watch below as a surfer sets a wave aflame and a kayaker dazzles through calmer waters while the coastal city lights shine in the background.

Toilet Paper Roll Faces: The Creepiest Use Of A Toilet Paper Roll Ever

    

          Everyone knows that when the toilet paper is out, danger is approaching. Well, let’s just say that we all know we would rather have a spare toilet paper roll at home than realize it’s out when it’s too late. I remember when I was in preschool, and we were asked to bring empty toilet paper rolls to school. At first I was, as most of the kids were, clueless as to what was going to happen. But then it quickly dawned on us that we were going to create all kinds of cool stuff with these cardboard things. We made ornaments for the  Christmas tree, maracas, yeah you name it, we could do pretty much anything with them. As time progressed, the use of a toilet paper roll somewhat fell into the shadows of our daily chores. We no longer saw the potential in them, and that’s way sad.
             A guy that certainly doesn’t see the limits, yet sees the possibilities with an empty toilet paper roll is designer Junior Fritz Jacquiet. He calls himself a paper sculptor and boy are his creations awesome. Most of us would just put a couple of eyes, a nose and a mouth on the roll by using a pen. At max we’d add some yarn hair to it as well. But Fritz has a style all his own that will not only thrill you, but creep you out as well.
Fritz uses them as they are, adding a little color and then folding them to make fantastic faces. Each one is as unique as the next. I am just amazed by the creativity he shows in all his toilet paper roll faces. It’s astonishing to think that these faces where all hidden in a plain, boring and gray toilet paper roll awaiting discovery. This is art when at its best.
